Opus – A new concept hits Buffalo, NY
December 5, 2008
Gang,
I want to tell you about something new that’s come to Buffalo. Very rarely will you ever catch me down on Chippewa. The only time you will is when I’m with some women that feel like dancing. That ends up maybe being about 3 or 4 times a year. Usually we just end up dancing wherever we are anyways, not necessarily on Chippewa. I guess my reasons for avoiding Chippewa are the same reasons that many people have. It’s a young crowd, it’s a jerk crowd, it’s a douche bag crowd, uppity women, etc. etc. I really need to be in the mood to be down there though. I like 67west, I like 3rd room, the rest… I don’t know.. no offense to any of the Chippewa business owners, but I really have to be in the mood to hit that area of town.
So it was to my surprise, when my friend told me he was helping a guy out with a bar that’s opening up on Deleware, a few storefronts down from Chippewa in the opposite direction of Club W (another bar that isn’t too bad I suppose). At anyrate, This bar is called “OPUS” big sign with halo lit letters in red. Tonight was the soft soft opening, and I was invited. I really had no idea what to expect, but I knew that my friend had mentioned that they were trying to cater to an older crowd. 28 and up professionals with a desire for a classy lounge environment in which they could crush some high quality champagne and specialty martinis.
I walked up and the door was locked. I didn’t see my friend, but a couple people sitting at the bar. A man walked up to the door, unlocked it and told me they weren’t open. I told him my friend’s name, and his demeanor changed, and he invited me in for a look. His name was Tony, very well dressed, and gave me the grand tour of his establishment. It looked like a very elegant living room of a very wealthy person. Art on the walls, custom hanging lamps, dimly lit, plush couches, and a very classy looking bar stocked with all the treats that a wealthy baller would want to quench their thirst with. There was a room off the main room which he said was going to be the VIP area. Everything in this room was shipped in directly from Morocco! vibrant colors, and exquisite – a very spectacular sight. He told me about his plan to get belly dancers and bottle service and if everything works out, this place will be an amazing establishment.
I would recommend to everyone in the proximity of Buffalo to get dolled up some night and check out this place. It really is something that hasn’t been done in Buffalo before, and I imagine that the networking possibilities in this place are going to be great considering in my first visit, I met the regional rep for “SumPoosie” energy drink, and the owner of a successful catering company.
Go check it out!
